URANIUM JEWELRY

Radiation Hormesis:

I became interested in radioactive jewelry as a healing agent for inflammation and immune system stimulation. It is my intention to present jewelry for you that has been tested for strength of radiation so that you can choose the jewelry that is right for you. In most cases I have tested the jewelry with a Mazur Radiation Meter using a 'quick test' method of holding the meter against the jewelry for a few minutes. I like using the simple calibration of CPM (Clicks per Minute).

I make no claims about what this jewelry will do for you and your health. It is up to you to do your own research to decide what you would like to try. In doing my own research on this topic I created a discussion thread online with many links to information on the topic of Radiation Hormesis.  You can access it here:

Uranium Glass History:

The first creator of uranium glass was believed to be Martin Klaproth (1743-1817), the discoverer of uranium. Among his experiments with the element he often mixed it into glass as a coloring agent. However it may even have its roots as early as 79 AD following the discovery in 1912 of a glass mosaic in an excavation on a Roman Villa near Naples in Italy.

Czech Uranium glass was invented by Franz Riedel, co-owner of glass factories in and around the small Northern Bohemian town of Desna in 30-ies of 19th century. His nephew Josef Riedel (1816-1894) started its production. Under the names Annagelb (yellow) , Annagrun(green) and Eleonoragrun(peach) he introduced this glass dyed with small amount of uranium oxides. Due to new beautiful yellow and green colors this glass shortly became popular and it's production spread to Germany, Italy, France and England, later to America.

After WWII production of uranium glass has been reduced or stopped in most countries. Nowadays, uranium glass products from Riedel's original Gablonz region are one of the few in the world.

Uranium Glass Safety:

One of the interesting things about uranium glass is that the glass itself blocks most Alpha particle emissions. Locking uranium dioxide salts within the glass structure limits the Alpha radiation particles, allowing Beta and Gamma rays to escape in larger quantities. Most experts agree that wearing uranium glass jewelry is safe.

The coloring agent used in vaseline glass is not the unstable and radioactive element uranium, but the more stable compound URANIUM DIOXIDE. This uranium compound is only 1% to 2% per volume of the glass. More importantly, it is the medium, glass itself, which contributes to the safety of Vaseline Jewelry. Glass, being a solid, is a barrier or shield to radiation.

Glass is actually used in radiation rooms for such purposes. One of the interesting things about uranium glass is that the glass itself blocks most Alpha particle emissions. Locking uranium dioxide salts within the glass structure limits the Alpha radiation particles, allowing Beta and Gamma rays to escape in larger quantities.
